About Erin (...and her back-up midwives, her students, and her birth assistants!)

Erin Curtiss, L.M. graduated from the Seattle Midwifery School with a 3-year certificate in Midwifery and from Goddard College with a BA in Health Arts and Sciences with an emphasis on Midwifery Studies in 2003. Since then Erin has had the opportunity to serve hundreds of women and their families by providing care for women at the Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic at Overlake Hospital and at Queen Anne Obstetrics and Gynecology and by working side-by-side with a number of midwives in the Puget Sound area. Erin is now currently working as a solo practitioner in the University District of Seattle. She serves as part-time faculty in the midwifery program at Bastyr University, she is a board member of the Midwives' Association of Washington State (MAWS), and she acts as the liaison between MAWS and the Midwives' Quality Management Program. Erin is also a member of the Association of Midwifery Educators (AME). She was the first licensed midwife to provide out-of-hospital newborn hearing screening in the Puget Sound area.
Erin thoroughly enjoys her work as a midwife. She is dedicated to providing women with high quality and respectful midwifery care. She lives in Seattle with her two sons (both born at home!) where she spends her spare time reading, gardening, chasing her children around, and communing with friends.
Back-Up Midwives
Rarely do unforeseen circumstances prevent Erin from being present in your prenatal care, at your labor & delivery, or in your postpartum care. In the event that Erin is unable to participate in your care as planned, she will call upon another skilled and experienced midwife in the area. All of the midwives who cover call for her are licensed professionals per Washington state law and are covered by malpractice insurance.
Auxiliary Staff
Carrie Dulisse is a Licensed Midwife who occasionally answers the phones, schedules client visits, and covers prenatal and postpartum clinic visits when Erin is at deliveries. She occassionally assists at deliveries and helps Erin to provide newborn hearing screens. Carrie has worked with women and babies since 1999. She graduated from the Seattle Midwifery School in 2001. Upon graduation Carrie went to work for Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue and at the Three Tree Women’s Clinic at Highline Medical Center in Burien. Carrie gave birth to her son at home in 2009 with Erin as her midwife.
Students and Birthing Assistants
Erin is committed to the continuance of midwifery in the United States and enthusiastically calls upon students to be a part of her clients' care. You have the choice to have a student attend your delivery with Erin or to have a birthing assistant attend your delivery with Erin. Erin attends every delivery with at least one other trained individual. Nearly 100% of the time you will have the opportunity to meet the person who plans to assist Erin at your delivery before you go into labor. The students and birthing assistants Erin works with are required to be current in Neonatal Resuscitation and Adult CPR. They are also trained in basic maternal-fetal monitoring and medical procedures. You will never be left in the care of a student or birthing assistant without the supervision of your midwife.
